Women in the Boardroom

Many female directors believe women may be their own worst enemies when it comes to making it to the boardroom, according to a British survey.

While 66 per cent of the 105 women directors polled by executive recruiter Praxis Executive Resourcing said women have equal opportunities in the workplace, just 32 per cent believed they had the same chance as men of being named to a corporate board of directors.

Of those who said opportunity is limited for women, 68 per cent said a lack of networking skills put them at a disadvantage against men. Sixty-four per cent also cited the decision to take time off to have a family as a disadvantage.
