Thriving in the 21st Century

by: Daphne Bennett

How do we thrive?

We thrive by developing our Relationship Intelligence, the skills of self-awareness & self-leadership. We are in relationship every second. Everyone in every business fulfills their roles and responsibilities through relationships. Our personal and professional success depend on our interpersonal relationships.  For businesses to thrive, not just survive, in this new economy, we must focus on the quality of these interpersonal relationships.

We are all pulled and pushed by the relationships in our lives. they determine our moods, motives and actions.  It takes courage to conduct a critical examination of our relationships, to look closely at our own thoughts and behaviors and how they impact our selves, others and the success of the organization. But doing so with a clear intention of improving our current and future relationships is well worth the effort.

What are the benefits to improving our Relationship Intelligence?

Individuals experience an improvement in their overall health and wellbeing. Much of the stress we experience is caused by how we treat each other.  When people are able to manage their emotions and impulses and put others at ease their confidence increases. Our personal and professional success depends on this skill.

Businesses can expect an increase in the level of employee engagement, lower turnover, higher attendance, and improved productivity. Strong healthy interpersonal relationships (between individuals, groups, departments) are the building blocks of organizational growth.

 What does Relationship Intelligence mean?

In addition to specific skills, knowledge and communication strategies it means we have to care, about ourselves, and about each other. It means we have to be empathetic and compassionate and be guided by a strong sense of values – all day every day, not just when it is easy but especially in these challenging and demanding times. When we rediscover our humanity we all thrive.
