Personal Profile
Sue Quinn is a lover of all animals. Her love of dogs, in particular, has helped her to choose her life’s path. Or should I say, they chose her.
Sue was a jack-of-all-trades in the financial industry for the past 32 years ranging from Senior Administrator to Personal Lender to Business Systems Officer. She has obtained Certificates in Communications and Accounting from the Institute of Canadian Bankers. She also completed and received Certificates for many computer-related, on-line courses while at the Bank and received many Awards of Excellence Nominations and Act for Impact Certificates for ideas brought forward and then implemented within the various Departments. Sue is also a landlord of a property she has owned for the last 12 years along with sitting on the Board of Directors of this same property’s condo corporation.
Three months after her son Ryan was born (May 9th/96), Sue decided that being a single mom was a better life for both her and her son and she has never regretted this decision. Sue also volunteered as a Beaver Leader (with the Scouting Association) and served as a Supervising adult during many of Ryan’s classroom excursions outside of the school. Sue is also her son’s Personal Manager as he is a member of Actra and is an actor in the TV/Film/Commercial/Theatre industry.
Sue is the Top Dog (or Queen of the Pack) of Kamp K-9 Inc., a company specializing in all services for dogs. Sue is looking for a building to house her hotel/boarding, daycare, grooming, obedience training, a health & wellness section and even a little bit of retail thrown in – Kamp K-9 Inc. which will be your one-stop shop for your furry four-legged family member. In the near future, once the building is opened and operating, we plan on branching out into mobile grooming & obedience training, as well as opening other locations in the Oakville, Burlington and Hamilton areas.
All of her life, Sue has wanted to be involved with animals in one capacity or another (ie: Veterinarian, Vet Tech Assistant, Animal Shelter Volunteer, etc.), however, her busy life in the banking industry and the promise of following in her parents’ footsteps put her dreams on hold. She has always owned two dogs at any given time and has been through many sad but many more happy times with these wonderful furry friends. As Sue’s parents have both now passed on and she has left the Banking industry due to downsizing, she has the opportunity of fulfilling her vision. Kamp K-9 Inc. is that vision. To be able to assist dogs who cannot speak for themselves and to help the owners understand how they can make their dogs’ lives (and their own) much more pleasant with less stress.
Sue has also attended a programme offered by Halton Region at the Womens’ Centre in Oakville entitled the New Start Programme for Women Entrepreneurs. Every session the class was taught by speakers who are experts in their fields who were brought in to speak and teach about areas such as Small Business Start-Up, Self-Assessment, Marketing, Sales, Advertising, Legal, Accounting/Bookkeeping, Negotiating Skills, Stress Management, Website Design & Management, etc., all to prepare us for our new ventures.
Sue has attended many other seminars include regarding business management, human
resources, income tax preparation, etc.
Sue
has been working for a similar type of business since September 2009.
Although they only provide daycare and obedience training, and some
retail, it has given Sue the opportunity of getting acquainted with an
extremely broad range of types of dogs and their personalities. They
gravitate towards her like she’s a magnet and she loves them all.
Sue is currently in the process of obtaining her diploma from ICS Canada in the area of Dog Obedience Instructor/Trainer and has already attained her Pet Groomer Certification with Honours. She has also completed and received Certification in Levels I, II and III of Animal Communication. In the very near future, she will be completing the Animal Sciences course from ICS Canada as well as the Canine Massage Therapist certification (“CMT” designation). Sue has trained and has received her Reiki Master Certification to be able to perform Reiki on dogs as well as humans. (“Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress and, if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. While Reiki is not a religion, it is still important to live and act in a way that promotes harmony with others. Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of the Reiki system of natural healing, recommended that one practice certain simple ethical ideals to promote peace and harmony, which are nearly universal across all cultures.”) These credentials, along with learning the arts of Dog Massage, Therapeutic Tellington Touch, Reflexology and Acupressure, will support Sue with Kamp K-9 and provide opportunities for future service expansion.
Sue has had conversations with many individuals who are amazed at how well her own dogs behave and how beautifully soft their coats are and, when she advises people who have dogs that she is opening Kamp K-9 “soon”, they let her know they can’t wait and would leave their dogs with her any time, confident in the knowledge that she has obtained and is obtaining and the compassion she obviously has for these animals.
Cesar Millan (The Dog Whisperer) has been a big mentor to some of the methods that Sue utilizes to try to bring balance to dogs’ lives and to help bring patience and understanding to their owners. Some have even gone as far as calling Sue “Ms. Dog Whisperer”.
Sue would love to hear from anyone who would like to contribute ideas in helping to make dogs’ lives more stress free. She can be reached at 647-801-DOGS or kampk-9@rogers.com or wellnessfordogs@rogers.com .
