Almost one in four Canadians believes stress has kept them from moving ahead at work, a study finds. While we've all long heard about the effects of stress on our physical and emotional well-being, a new study shows that it can not onlyy make work difficult and less satisfying, it can also literally impede a career.

Stressed employees at greater risk for depression

A study by Statistics Canada examined stress levels among the employed population, aged 18 to 75, and found that depression stands out as a major occupational health issue. Just over one million adults had experienced a major depressive episode in the year before the survey interview.

Workplace Stress Takes its Toll

According to a survey released last week, Canadians suffering from stress and mental health problems often keep going to work until the point of burnout. A poll of 1,500 Canadians found that stress and mental health problems now account for 40% of long-term disability claims, 35 million lost workdays a year, and 40% of employee turnover.
