Business Profile

Carla has been practising management-side labour and employment law since her call to the bar in 1991. For many years, she was a partner with the Toronto office of Hicks Morley, Canada's pre-eminent law firm in the areas of labour and employment law on behalf of management.

Carla's legal practice encompasses most areas of employment and labour law with a particular focus on human rights, labour arbitrations, negotiation of collective agreements and regulatory health professions. She has been actively involved in proceedings with respect to various disciplines under the Regulated Health Professions Act and frequently appears before the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board.

Carla also provides human resources training in all aspects of employment and labour law and conducts human rights and workplace investigations. Carla sits as an employer-side nominee on boards of arbitration.

Carla completed Alternate Dispute Resolution training at the Stitt Feld Handy Group, a division of ADR Chambers, and acts as a mediator/facilitator in a number of different areas including labour relations, employment, human rights, wrongful dismissal, commercial, landlord/tenant, real estate, personal injury, interpersonal, family, general litigation and multi-party disputes.

Carla speaks regularly on employment-related topics to the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association, various chapters of the HRPAO, the Learning Forum and other employer and business organizations. Carla has taught an employment law course at Guelph University and is a guest lecturer at George Brown College, Sheridan College and Osgoode Hall Law School.

Carla is a member of the Oakville Chamber of Commerce, Company of Women, and the Professional Women’s Association. She has been on the Board of Directors of several charities including Charlton Hall Child and Family Centre in Hamilton and the Peel Chapter of the Canadian Music Competitions. She is the past President and Legal Chair of Big Sisters of Canada.
